About Us

A Historic Springfield Bar

Our bar was built in 1954 and opened in the late 1950s as OK Tavern. It quickly became local mill workers’ favorite bar. Clint Eastwood worked in the Springfield mill industry at Weyerhaeuser at that time and he remembers the OK Tavern as the rowdiest bar he had ever been in. The bar stayed in business until 2011, when it changed hands and became Harley’s and Horses for a brief three years.
Why the bar named the Gridiron Grill & Tap House?

Why the bar named the Gridiron Grill & Tap House?

Many people associate the term “gridiron” with North American football, but Chris used the name for a different reason. Chris moved to Springfield, Oregon, with his family in 1980, at the age of 8. His family worked in the milling industry and when Chris was 19 he worked at Rosboro Lumber Co. This exposure to milling taught Chris how hard it is to work as a laborer, and that working hard to make a living and to raise a family takes physical and mental discipline as tough times come and go.
