The Gridiron Grill & Tap House has been on Main Street in Springfield, Oregon, since 2014, but the bar has been a staple in Springfield for more than 50 years.
A Historic Springfield Bar
Our bar was built in 1954 and opened in the late 1950s as OK Tavern. It quickly became local mill workers’ favorite bar. Clint Eastwood worked in the Springfield mill industry at Weyerhaeuser at that time and he remembers the OK Tavern as the rowdiest bar he had ever been in. The bar stayed in business until 2011, when it changed hands and became Harley’s and Horses for a brief three years. Then, in 2014, our owner, Chris Craig, purchased the tavern. On Oct. 23, 2014 the bar became The Gridiron Grill & Tap House.
Why the is our bar named the Gridiron Grill & Tap House?
Many people associate the term “gridiron” with North American football, but Chris used the name for a different reason.
Chris moved to Springfield, Oregon, with his family in 1980, at the age of 8. His family worked in the milling industry and when Chris was 19 he worked at Rosboro Lumber Co. This exposure to milling taught Chris how hard it is to work as a laborer, and that working hard to make a living and to raise a family takes physical and mental discipline as tough times come and go.
The milling industry is at times volatile and sometimes, like in football, laborers must push through obstacles to move forward. That’s why Chris chose the name Gridiron Grill & Tap House. Our goal is to provide a place where everyone in the Eugene-Springfield area can go to have fun, to spend time with good company and to get a high-quality meal and drinks after work.

With the historic nature of our location, we strive to continue to provide our loyal patrons with the same great atmosphere they’ve loved since the 1950s. Our menu of mouthwatering food includes breakfast and late-night options. We also offer a 7 a.m.-11 a.m. Blue-Collar Breakfast happy hour for the graveyard shift workers at the lumber mills in the Springfield-area, and any early risers.
Customer service and customer appreciation are our top priorities. We offer a 10 percent Veterans discount on all regular priced food and drinks from open to close every day. We also strive to keep general food and beverage prices affordable. This way, we can give our hard-working customers the best deal in town.
